Dirt Trackin'

Saturday night I shot some dirt track racing at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas. I didn't have the best night shooting, due to some issues with my flash. But, I did manage to get some images like this one. The track was really fast during hot laps, so the cars were carrying a lot of speed going into the corners. This is called a "wing down" shot. The car leans down as it enters the corner, which makes for a really nice frame.

When a situation gives you a lemon...make lemonade. That is what happened with this photo. The flash didn't fire correctly and because I shot RAW, I was able to rescue this image. I did a little post and was able to salvage it. I like how the flame is shooting from the muffler and the glow through the rim. Not bad for an image that was nearly black.

During the feature race for the modified class, the track starting getting dusty. So, I decided to play around with slow shutter pans. What's wild about this shot is that it is a reverse pan. Looking at the image, you would think that the cars were racing in reverse, when they were actually racing from image right to left. I apparently moved the camera to the right and this shot was the result. I guess this also falls into that category of accidentally making a cool photo.
